About the Badass

Diamond and MeMy name is Hadass Badass. I was born in Beit Shean, Israel, in 1982, lived in Montreal, Canada from 1991 to 2006, when I moved back to Israel. I currently live with my husband, my daughter and my dog in Jerusalem, where I pretend to be a secretary by day, but reveal my true self as a riot grrrl metalhead zinester by night.

I love music, especially metal and punk. I love writing of any kind – articles, zines, blogs, journal entries and letters. I love anything retro – typewriters, film cameras, cassette tapes, and VHS and I’ll take snail mail over email any day.

My writing weapon of choice is a red vintage typewriter, which makes a whole lotta noise. My tunes of choice consist of Arch Enemy records, which make a whole lotta more noise. My vocal chords are unable to make such a racket, but with these two eardrum-piercing-decibels-turned-auditory-orgasms, I can express myself in my utmost glory.

I love DIY art. In the past, I’ve experimented with drawing, painting, sewing, doll-making, sculpting, photography, poetry, guitar playing, songs and composition, writing one autobiography and a few fiction stories. Today, I make zines, incorporating collages and comics. My current creation is Purple Myrtle Squeegy – A PMS Perzine. I also produce snail mail art – stationary, envelopes and postcards. I prefer hand-made art, but I also love computer designs and layouts.

I love stickers, cute zombies, Looney Tunes, hammers and anvils.

I love dogs. I have a Husky mix, Diamond. In the past, I had a Golden Retriever, Buxy. He passed away in 2012 and I miss him terribly.

I love tattoos and piercings. I have a few myself and planning on getting several more.

I love Stephen King books. I am building a collection of his novels. My favorite book (or rather series of books) is the Dark Tower. I named my typewriter Rose Madder after one of his novels. King’s a fucking genius and you may very well find a lot of posts on this blog about how hopelessly addicted I am to him. Drugs don’t hold a candle to Stephen King’s prose.

I am a weekday vegetarian (meaning I eat meat on the weekend) and I love cooking. I love trying out new recipes, especially if they involve a lot of cheese, veggies and spices.

Rose MadderI love exercising. I do integral Tai Chi once a week, for about an hour and a half, including prayer and meditation.

I’m a strong believer in the Mother Goddess and I worship Her through music, candles, meditation and art.

This blog exists due to my insatiable need to write. It is about me and my sometimes crazy, sometimes uneventful life, and how I manage to maneuver my way through it: My discussions with my inner-child, my adventures with motherhood, travels, health, drugs, art, music, activism, writing projects, love, and feminism coupled with the less palpitating aspects of my life, and trying to find a certain balance in the midst of the innate Israeli insanity.

So here is my blog. If it’s not for your enjoyment, it is certainly for mine. However, I do welcome comments, as well as offers for zine trades, recipe trades and penpal requests.

A True Riot Grrrl Never Dies.

  1. Hadass, I love your blog!!!
It’s truly smart and funny and inspiring, although english isn’t my native tongue and I need Thesaurus to understand some words here and there. It’s a pity that Fallopian Falafel is over, but it’s great to know you’re writing a book. Of course, I want to get my copy.

    All the best,

    María Loreto

  2. Wow. I was just going around looking for a hostel in Jerusalem that would allow a stay that’d be quite a while (long story) but I was also curious if there’s any particular hostel known by metalheads around. Then I see this site. Not bad at all! Really cool! \m/

  3. I’m also curious where metal concerts would be? The Yellow Submarine I think I’ve heard of but any concert would be my first. But I am a huge fan of metal and I’ve listened from anywhere between Black Veil Brides (ik they are glam and shit don’t start) and Deicide.

    • Hey dude! Thanks for stopping by my blog and your comments. I don”t know of any metal hostels, but you can find anything online these days. The rock bar that me and my husband go to is called Blaze. You can join the blaze page on facebook and be updated on any shows or metal night it has. Around once a month we have a metal night, not live shows but spinning metal music. And yes sometimes there are live metal shows at the yellow submarine and also at a bar called Uganda. Hope this helps!
      Enjoy your trip 😃
